At Newman Catholic College, we recognise that Year 8 is a pivotal time in our students’ development, where they face new academic challenges, social dynamics, and personal growth opportunities. To support them in navigating these experiences, we have implemented The Resilience Project, a comprehensive program that teaches essential life skills centered on gratitude, empathy, and mindfulness.

In Year 8, students delve into these principles through engaging lessons and interactive activities, which encourage them to cultivate a positive mindset and build meaningful connections with peers and the wider community. Gratitude helps students focus on the positive aspects of their lives, reinforcing a sense of contentment and appreciation. Empathy fosters understanding and compassion, enabling students to develop stronger relationships and appreciate diverse perspectives. Mindfulness teaches them to manage stress and stay grounded, helping them to be more present in their learning and interactions.

Through The Resilience Project, our Year 8 students participate in reflective exercises, discussions, and hands-on activities that make these concepts come alive. By developing these skills early, they are better prepared to handle the challenges of adolescence, making informed and resilient choices. Aligned with our Catholic values, The Resilience Project supports our mission to nurture well-rounded, compassionate, and self-aware young people who are ready to contribute positively to their world.
