Planning for the Future
The Newman Catholic College Strategic Plan has been prepared to ensure the long-term sustainability of the College as an innovative learning community that prepares students for the demands of a challenging and changing world. Education at Newman Catholic College is offered within a Catholic Tradition.
At Newman truth means to accept challenges, be accountable and communicate honestly.
At Newman excellence means always encouraging the attitude of constantly doing the best we can, and the willingness to embrace opportunity and exceed expectations. To be part of a community that teaches and learns.
Our Vision, Mission and Values transform into the Strategic Plan and consequent Annual Improvement Plans which defines our Brand and the future direction of our College. Our Strategic Plan is based upon the Cairns Catholic Education Services Strategic
Plan 2021 - 2025 and its four Strategic Directions and 10 Priorities.
These Strategic Directions are:
Encounter – Catholic Identity
The formation of staff and students through a Catholic lens and furthering our understanding of First Nations cultures and ways of knowing, being and doing.
First Nations Perspectives
Understand the cultures of the First Nations peoples and provide learning environments which are culturally safe and embrace culturally responsive and high impact pedagogies, with a strong emphasis on engagement, well-being and success.
Engagement - Wellbeing & Learning
Consistent planning and teaching that is responsive to students and the context in which they live and learn.
Capability
Recruitment, retention, development and professional learning to build an inspiring, engaged and highly effective professional staff.
This Strategic Plan incorporates a Master Building Plan for capital development over the next five years. This plan requires a commitment from the wider College, Parish and Diocesan community to grow this new College to capacity by 2027.
“Education is integral to the mission of the Church to proclaim the Good News. First and foremost, every Catholic education institute is a place to encounter the living God who in Jesus Christ reveals his transforming love and truth (cf. Spe Salvi, 4). This relationship elicits a desire to grow in the knowledge and understanding of Christ and his teaching. In this way those who meet Him are drawn by the very power of the Gospel to lead a new life characterised by all that is beautiful, good and true.” Pope Benedict XVI, Address to Catholic Educators, Washington DC, 17th April 2008.
“Catholic schools are guided in all they do by an important and coherent vision of education. This vision is based on the truth revealed by God about ourselves, our life together in community, and our ultimate destiny with God. This gives rise to an educational endeavour centred on the person of Jesus Christ who is our Way, Truth and Life.” Bishops of England and Wales Sept 2007 in their Pastoral Letter on Catholic Schools.
Purpose
To prepare students for the demands of a challenging world, supported by Gospel Values and a curriculum that adopts the best of what is traditional and new and innovative.
